Hundreds
enjoy Kyle Petty Charity RideDebbie Schwarz Simpson Register-Herald Reporter
WHITE SULPHUR
SPRINGS —
It
was a banner day for this resort village Wednesday when
the 250 cyclists in the Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity
Ride Across America zoomed down Main Street to a
rousing welcome by an estimated crowd of 4,000 NASCAR
fans and 1,200 motorcycles.
The estimates
were made by Petty’s staff members.
“We’ve had our biggest welcome yet,” Petty
said. The cyclists came from Lexington, Ky., with stops
in Grayson, Ky., and Beckley.
“It’s the
biggest event White Sulphur Springs has had for as long
as I can remember,” said White Sulphur Springs Police
Chief James Hylton, general chairman of the event.
“It’s boosted our economy and has drawn
people to White Sulphur Springs. This gave local people
an opportunity to get together and enjoy a fun day,”
he added.
“The governor told me we had put
White Sulphur on the map. Gov. Joe Manchin joined the
ride in Beckley. "Governor Joe manchin is a member
of the Official NASCAR members Club and a big NASCAR
fan, who also waved the green last year at the Coca
Cola 600 " said Paul , who is the LCP of the
Charleston Chapter 253621.
The charity ride,
which raises funds for the Victory Junction Gang Camp,
drew motorcyclists from several states in addition to
West Virginia.
“We like the weather, the
friendly people and the mountain scenery,” said Jack
Cannon of Greenville, S.C. Cannon was en route to the
Freedom Rally at Snowshoe Mountain Resort with his good
friend, Billy Meadows, when he stopped at the White
Sulphur City Hall to get information on the Kyle Petty
Charity Ride.
Cannon’s motorcycle, in red,
white and blue, was an attention-getter. The back of
the Harley-Davidson was decorated with an American
eagle and a state-of-the-art sign, “In Memory of Our
Fallen Heroes, 9-11-01.”
“We’ve been
members of the West Virginia State Harley Owners Group
for eight years,” Cannon pointed out.
“It was one of the nicest rides I’ve been on. The
roads were so good,” Rose Hinkle said in discussing
her trip from Marlinton.
Business owners
also gave a thumbs-up to the charity ride which boosted
their business.
“We saw about 30 percent
increase in our daily sales, including gasoline,”
said Myron Vaughan, owner of Vaughan’s Exxon.
“Our Quizno’s did 50 percent more business
then it generally does,” Vaughan said. “And people
got to see our town.”
“We had a good
day,” said Joyce Vaughan, owner of The Diner with her
husband, Waitman. “A lot of people liked our homemade
milkshakes and banana splits.”
The Kyle
Petty Charity Ride Across America was $6,530 richer
following its visit to White Sulphur Springs.
Giving the fundraiser a boost was a silent auction of
a Kyle Petty flag which went to Steve Clendenen of
Caldwell. The flag was signed by all the dignitaries
and city officials who took part in the opening
ceremony.
A second identical flag was kept
by the city, which sponsored the charity ride.
Motorcycles lined the circle at The Greenbrier with
members of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America
spending the night at the resort.
Their
dinner was provided by the Seminole Tribe of Florida
and was prepared by Greenbrier chefs.
The
Chick-fil-A Charity Ride Across America’s next
destination is Charlotte, N.C., with plans to visit
children at the Victory Junction Gang Camp in
Randleman, Petty’s hometown.
According to
Hylton, plans are to stage another motorcycle festival
in White Sulphur in 2009.

THANK YOU BRETT ROWEFOR AN
ENJOYABLE WEEKEND

DO YOU GET WHEN YOU HAVE ONE DEDICATED DRIVER AND
SEVERAL BUS LOADS OF FANS.........A MEET AND GREET AT

ON SATURDAY TO GREET HIS FANS, AND DO A FEW AUTOGRAPHS
AND TALK TO THE FANS. WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK
FOR.AFTER A
HARD SEVERAL DAYS AT THE TRACK WITH A BRAND NEW CAR, IN
THE MARSHALL PAINT SCHEME, AND ONLY 3 POSSIBLE SPOTS TO
RACE HIS WAY INTO THE FIELD, LUCK WAS NOT ON THE CARS
SIDE. WITH JUST ABOUT THE ENTIRE TIME RIGHT UP UNTIL
TECH INSPECTION.....THE TEAM WAS STILL TRYING TO GET
THE CAR "RIGHT".
WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF ANY TESTING AND HAVING
TO SET THE CAR UP AT THE TRACK AND DO IT IN SUCH A
LITTLE TIME....THE ONLY PRACTICE CAME DURING THE
NASCAR PRACTICE SESSIONS AND THE CAR WAS JUST NOT
RIGHT.BRETT
TOOK THE CAR OUR ANYWAY, KNOWING THAT ONLY A FEW SPOT
WERE OPEN TO GET IN. ON THE FIRST LAP HE NEEDED JUST TO
PICK UP A FEW 10TH OF A SECOND TO GET IN....BUT THE CAR
WOULD NOT STICK AND BOTTOMED OUT IN THE TURNS, WHICH
ULTIMATELY LEAD TO THE 2ND LAP SPIN THAT TOOK OUT THE
CHANCE TO GET IN THE FIELD.THINK HE WAS UPSET, THINK
HE WAS A LITTLE DOWN ON HIMSELF, WELL HIS FANS WERE NOT
AND THEY ARE NASCAR FANS THAT UNDERSTAND "GO OR GO
HOME" BUT WHAT IF THE TEAM HAD GOT TO TEST THE NEW
CAR A WEEK OR TWO BEFORE THE QUALIFYING........IT MIGHT
HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT STORY....WHAT IF, WELL THATS ALL
IN HINDSIGHT.
QUALIFYING FIRST LAP COMPLETEWHAT REALLY MAKES HIS MANY
FANS GIVE HIM A STRONG THUMBS UP IS THE FACT THAT HE
IS ACCESSIBLE BY HIS FANS AND HE LIKES WHAT HE IS
DOING, AND HE TAKES CARE OF HIS FANBASE. WE THANK YOU
AND YOUR CREW (WIFE AND MOTHER INCLUDED FOR SUCH A
WONDERFUL TIME AT THE HAULER) AND THE ALL OUT
HOSTITALITY. A TRUE CLASS ACT.

Kanawha/Charleston Humane
Association’s FurBall 2008 CHARITY EVENT VOLUNTEERS GET 3
BONUS POINTS The Kanawha/Charleston Humane
Association held it’s yearly FurBall fundraiser on
Saturday, April 5th, at the Coonskin
Clubhouse. The events of the evening included an
appetizer buffet, a silent auction, and dancing with
music provided by DJ Randy Damron. Doorprizes and a
50/50 drawing were also part of the evening’s
festivities. The silent auction welcomed a variety of
new items this year thanks to the local chapter of the
Official NASCAR members club. They provided 14
various NASCAR items, the majority of them
autographed for the auction, which helped to increase
the animal shelter’s profits during the
evening. The FurBall is the
animal shelter’s largest yearly fundraiser. Half of
the proceeds from this fundraiser go towards the Big
Fix, which is held four times a year to offer reduced
cost spaying and neutering of people’s pets. Last
year 851 animals benefitted from this in the Kanawha
valley. The other half of the FurBall proceeds go
towards daily shelter operations, as it costs over
$60,000 a month to operate the shelter. This year a
record amount of $32,103 was raised at FurBall. We
cannot thank our many sponsors enough, as well as those
who donated food, auction items, and those who
purchased tickets to attend. We also especially want
to thank the NASCAR club
members for their participation this year and hope they
will join us again! Again, the staff and board
members of the Kanawha/Charleston Humane Association
thank everyone, but more importantly so do the animals
who reside there. Kim Hutton, LSW Family & Consumer

SCITES..... starts the season off with a Win at
Motor Mile
RADFORD,
Va.
(April 8,
2008) -The No. 06 Champion team drove to
Motor Mile Speedway in the rain on Saturday for the
track’s first race of the season. When they arrived
at the track, surprisingly it was not raining.
“During practice I knew we had a good race
car, but had no idea what it would do when it came time
for qualifying,” Scites said. The car
didn’t let him down as he qualified fifth out of the
29 cars in the field.
“I knew that we would be close enough to get
to the front during the 150 laps,” Scites said.
“Motor Mile Speedway ran all the races on Saturday
except for ours.
We made it through the day, but the rain finally
came and they lost the track.” Track
officials opted to postpone the race to the following
afternoon, and from the drop of the green flag the
Champion Chevy was strong. Scites worked his way into second place
with 40 laps to go.
“I started reeling in the leader,” Scites
said. “There were very few cautions and a lot of
lapped cars between us, which made it
tricky.” It looked like Davin was
going to finish second until a late caution. “I knew
that would give me a chance to take a charge at the
leader,” Scites said. The green flag came out with
only a handful of laps to go. When the leaders entered
Turn One, the No. 26 car pushed up the track just
enough for Scites to get underneath him. “Down the
back stretch he hit me twice trying to break my
momentum,” Scites said. “We battled side by side
for the next three laps. I really wanted to give
Champion a win our first time out and we managed to
pull it off coming off of Turn Four on the last lap and
won the race! “I have to thank Champion,
Wayne Lumber Co, R&B Auto refinishing, Racing
Collectables Club of America, Stock
Car Steel, CB&H Parts, Tiger Rear Ends, and Racing
Electronics for their support. I hope we did them proud
today.” After the race the second-place finisher
protested several parts on Scites No. 6 Champion
Chevrolet and all components were deemed legal by
NASCAR officials. Next race: April
19th at Motor Mile Speedway
Davin
Scites, a native of West
Virginia, is a driver that has been
described as being "pure energy and
excitement" when it comes to racing. Davin was the
only rookie to win a race in the 2003 season in ASA.
Last season Davin ran his first ARCA Remax race and
finished 6th. I have know Davin for a year
now and he is as nice to his fans as he is tough to
beat on the track. He is one dedicated
driver. Davin Scites Driving for JR
Motorsports SCITES TO
DRIVE NO. 06 CHAMPION CHEVROLET IN 2008
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 18, 2008) –
After a successful 2007 season, Davin Scites
Motorsports has announced the No. 06 Champion Chevrolet
schedule for 2008, which features a full slate of
racing at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., plus select late model
stock car events at other tracks throughout the
Southeast.
Scites, a native of West Virginia, ended the 2007 season
with five wins, 15 top fives and 18 top-10
finishes. He also set a new track record in
qualifying for the annual late model stock car race at
Martinsville in September. His success behind the wheel led Scites to an
association with the Dale
Earnhardt Jr.-owned JR Motorsports for the 2008
season. Sponsored by Champion, a world leader in
the manufacturing of spark plugs, Scites moved
into JR Motorsports' 66,000-square foot facility in Mooresville, N.C., at the end of
2007.
"Davin is a great race car
driver and a great friend," Earnhardt Jr. said. "He worked out of a shop near my house
last year and I was impressed with the number of
wins he racked up during the season. It seemed
like every time I walked into the shop there was a new
trophy Davin had won over the weekend.
"With all his success, JR Motorsports is
proud to be associated with Davin Scites
Motorsports for the 2008 season. I'm looking forward to
seeing Davin put the No. 06 Champion Chevy in
Victory Lane." Scites first race of the
season is scheduled for April 5 at Motor Mile
Speedway.
"I'm so excited to get
this season started," Scites said. "We've
been working hard on the car to get it ready for
the season. We are honored to have Champion as
our sponsor and can't wait to get on the track
and get to racing."

CHARLESTON, WV -
Moments after West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin

Driver Derek
Kiser Derek Kiser Has Been Signed to Stacy
Compton's Driver Development Program!
| | | |

Derek Kiser has been signed
into a professional driver development program chaired
by great NASCAR veteran, Stacy Compton. Derek is one of
only five other drivers in the program from across the
country.
Mr. Compton reason for starting
the project is so that young drivers with extraordinary
talent like Derek’s will not languish in obscurity,
as so many do. “There are a lot of great drivers out
there who can only go so far in the sport.” He
said. “It’s just like a lot of businesses. You
can have all the talent in the world, but, if you lack
the right contacts you’ll never get beyond a certain
level”.
That’s where Stacy comes in.
He is a racing legend and a long time NASCAR
mainstay. He has driven with the best of them. He
has occupied a coveted spot among NASCAR's upper ranks,
that only about 90 or so drivers from across the
country may occupy at any given time.
Stacy’s been there. He has a built an impressive
list of contacts over the years, and plans to exploit
every ounce of his industry saavy to help a short list
of only five drivers, including West Virginia’s Derek
Kiser, make it onto the big stage, and into the big
dance. He will also jam-pack their brains with
valuable racing knowledge that he has picked up over
the years.
Derek has been gifted with
talent, great personality, and, thanks to Stacy, an
extra-ordinarily rare opportunity. In turn, West
Virginia has been gifted with this warm, humble,
talented kid, who will represent this state well, and
is on his way to super-stardom. If you've ever wanted
to be part of a great story, now is the perfect time to
become part of his team. On another note the Official NASCAR Members
Club has had the great fortune working with Derek at
several "meet and greets", driver appearances
and show car events..........what a great up and coming
driver......always willing to talk to his fans and sign
autographs. We support Derek and hope you will vist is
site and check out his appearance
schedule............as well as watch and support
him. You can check out

Official Release October 3, 2005 03:31 PM EDT (19:31
GMT) The Charleston,
W.Va., Local Chapter of the Official NASCAR Members
Club has been busy spreading NASCAR goodwill since its
origin earlier this summer. There have been
organized race watch parties at a local restaurant,
weekly meetings, a weekly newsletter and most recently,
a cooperative fund-raiser with the West Virginia Radio
Corporation that raised more than $130,000 for
Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. As of Sept.
28, the local chapter can also call West Virginia Gov.
Joe Manchin a proud member and honorary
president. | | | Gov.

In a special recognition by NASCAR at
the state capitol in Charleston last week, Gov. Manchin
was presented with his Official NASCAR Members Club
(ONMC) membership card and named honorary president of
the local chapter. As a result, Gov. Manchin
becomes the first governor in the United Sates to join
the ONMC and earn the title of honorary president for a
local chapter. An avid NASCAR follower and lover of
motorsports, Gov. Manchin encouraged his colleagues
across the country to follow suit. "It's an
honor to be the first governor to be named an honorary
local chapter president of the Official NASCAR Members
Club," Gov. Manchin said. "I'll take that
honor and carry it proudly. I'd also like to challenge
the other governors across the country to become
involved. NASCAR is such a great family sport and the
Members Club is an outstanding way for NASCAR fans to
connect." Mark Dyer, NASCAR vice president
of licensing, was in Charleston for the event and
applauded West Virginia for its longevity in supporting
the sport. "West Virginia has long been a
hotbed for NASCAR," Dyer said. "It is
certainly one of the top states in the country in terms
of fan support. The ONMC is all about bringing NASCAR
to the cities and towns across America. NASCAR fans all
across America are gravitating toward the local
chapters and the Charleston chapter has been a leader
in this
area." | | JOIN

Paul Mullins, a native West
Virginian, has been the driving force behind the
Charleston local chapter. The retired mail carrier has
been a NASCAR fan "since I was five or six and my
dad would take me to the local dirt-track
races." He and his wife, Pam, have been true
ambassadors for the sport. It was Mullins who helped
organize the fund-raiser for Hurricane Katrina relief
earlier this month. "West Virginia is NASCAR
country," Mullins said. "The people in
Charleston and in West Virginia truly love NASCAR. My
wife and I really enjoy the Members Club and it is an
honor for us to be involved with the local
chapter." Ed Martin, National Director of
the ONMC Local Chapters, recognized Mullins for his
contributions to the development of the local chapter
concept. "The local chapters are growing at
a rapid pace," Martin said. "We have more
than 600 applications in all 50 states so far for
chapter presidents. "Paul Mullins has stood
tall among the Members Club. His leadership with the
Charleston local chapter has been exemplary. What he
and the other members did with the West Virginia Radio
Corporation to help raise more than $130,000 for
Hurricane Katrina is amazing and is a prime example of
the power of the local chapters and the NASCAR fan
base." Also in attendance at last week's
event was Bob Brant of Race Plates, a Morgantown,
W.Va., company that administers the sale of official
NASCAR registration license plates in eight states
across the U.S. West Virginia was one of the first
states to participate in the program and thus far,
sales of the NASCAR plates have generated more than
$700,000 for the state. Additionally, Eric
Denemark, president of the West Virginia Motor Sports
Association, praised his state's love affair with
NASCAR. "I saw a study recently that showed
West Virginia had more NASCAR fans per capita than any
other state in the country," Denemark said.
"I think it's a tribute to that passion that we
had this event here. When you have your state's
governor proclaim his support of NASCAR, that's a
pretty strong statement." Following the
presentation in his office, Gov. Manchin led the group
outside where he climbed into a NASCAR showcar and took
it for a spin around the capitol parking lot. It wasn't
the first time the governor had been behind the wheel
of a NASCAR racing machine. "I'm a proud
graduate of the Richard Petty Driving Experience,"
Gov. Manchin said. "They wouldn't let me go any
faster than 140 mph and I didn't particularly like
that, but what a thrill to be able to participate in
something like that." For more

updated info weekly Members Only Question and Answer session with
Rusty wallace interviewed on July 22nd, at WV Motor
Speedway Q: Rusty, any chance you
might come back with another team? A: Paul, I retired
because the schedule is just too long. If we had a
refined schedule of 32-34 races, well I would have to
wait and see....... Q: What is you
take on The Danica story? A: All
publicity, she needs to show me she can win at the
Brickyard before she can even expect to try
NASCAR....she's just not qualified and would be lost
right now in a cup car. Q: If you we
Mike Helton for a day, what would change? A: We don't have time to go into that,
I've got ideals as well as many other drivers, but
NASCAR is running the show and that's the way it
is. Q: What about your TV
broadcasting contract, how do you feel and do you have
any inside sources to help you? A:
I'm excited about next year and I have some sources
and the drivers currently and myself have had a good
relationship...............you can expect to see me be
well informed. Q: What do you think
about the official NASCAR members Club? A: Well you guys are here today, in
numbers and have a pretty good VIP inside access, so it
must afford you some great benefits. As for the
Club..hey i'm not in the loop since I retired and have
a full plate, so keep up your work and I'm sure NASCAR
will keep it going. Q: Our many
members here tonight want to thank you for all the time
you have spent with not only us, but the make a wish
foundation and the National Guard......do you always
arrive early and stay late? A: well
Paul, Ken and the other drivers are coming in from
Pocono, I came in early and i feel rather than let the
fans sit in the heat.......I'll start signing now and
get them moving...you can see there are about 12-1500
lined up, so with a little help from you let's get the
lines moving ( Rusty and myself then let the media
center and took the State Police Cruiser down to
the autograph tables.........on the way (5 mins) we
talked more about the members club and the many times
he has come to WV...end of interview)

Announcement: Davin Scites....Coming
|
|
Post Date: May 03, 2006

Davin Scites, a native of West Virginia, is a driver that
has been described as being "pure energy and
excitement" when it comes to racing. Davin was the
only rookie to win a race in the 2003 season in ASA.
Last season Davin ran his first ARCA Remax race and
finished 6th. I have know Davin for a year
now and he is as nice to his fans as he is tough to
beat on the track. He is one dedicated
driver. Davin Scites Driving for JR
Motorsports SCITES TO
DRIVE NO. 06 CHAMPION CHEVROLET IN 2008
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 18, 2008) –
After a successful 2007 season, Davin Scites
Motorsports has announced the No. 06 Champion Chevrolet
schedule for 2008, which features a full slate of
racing at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., plus select late model
stock car events at other tracks throughout the
Southeast.
Scites, a native of West Virginia, ended the 2007 season
with five wins, 15 top fives and 18 top-10
finishes. He also set a new track record in
qualifying for the annual late model stock car race at
Martinsville in September. His success behind the wheel led Scites to an
association with the Dale
Earnhardt Jr.-owned JR Motorsports for the 2008
season. Sponsored by Champion, a world leader in
the manufacturing of spark plugs, Scites moved
into JR Motorsports' 66,000-square foot facility in Mooresville, N.C., at the end of
2007.
"Davin is a great race car
driver and a great friend," Earnhardt Jr. said. "He worked out of a shop near my house
last year and I was impressed with the number of
wins he racked up during the season. It seemed
like every time I walked into the shop there was a new
trophy Davin had won over the weekend.
"With all his success, JR Motorsports is
proud to be associated with Davin Scites
Motorsports for the 2008 season. I'm looking forward to
seeing Davin put the No. 06 Champion Chevy in
Victory Lane." Scites first race of the
season is scheduled for April 5 at Motor Mile
Speedway.
"I'm so excited to get
this season started," Scites said. "We've
been working hard on the car to get it ready for
the season. We are honored to have Champion as
our sponsor and can't wait to get on the track
and get to racing."

Davin Scites Wins from the Pole at
Motormile
Radford, VA - Davin Scites is off to
a blazing start this season after claiming the
checkered flag in the first of two Late Model Stock Car
races Saturday night. Davin Scites also claimed his
second pole award at Motomile.
"We started on the pole for the first race. The
night was cold so the tires did not have a lot of heat
in them. At the start of the race the car slipped up
the track hanging me on the outside. It felt like a
hundred cars went by on the inside before I could move
back down. At that point we were in fifth. About lap 20
the car started coming to life and we started working
our way back to the front."
"The
car was handling great. At this point I was in second
and had one more car to pass, the 17 car. I went to the
inside of the 17 car but it took away my momentum so we
raced side by side for 15 or more
laps." "I could not
complete the pass so I fell back in line behind him and
then made another run at him. This time I got around
him in a couple of laps and went on to win the race. It
was great to finally get a win at Motormile, we
have been close so many times."
Davin
took the lead on lap 59 and never looked
back.
